Your Autistic Life: The Ruminations of an Autistic Enby

This is my blog. I masked my autism for the first 50 years of my life. I discovered in March 2023 that I am, in fact, autistic. Prior to this time, my life was mostly okay, but did not make much sense overall. Since my self-diagnosis, my life makes much more sense.

  • Next Time You Enjoy Free Speech, Thank A Comedian

Comedians are always at the mercy of people who want to shut them up just because they don’t like them. Let me start by saying that I’m so, so sorry that I’m US-based and that what I am going to talk about might not hold water in whatever corner of the world you live in.…

  • How Are Autistic People Supposed To Make A Living?

I explain at least part of the “making a living” problem from the point of view of an autistic person. Tie your hat. This is a long post. Now, keep in mind the proverb: When you’ve met one autistic person, you’ve met one autistic person. I don’t claim here to talk for every single autistic…

  • Sleep Disorders

I used to be able to sleep just fine, but I lost that ability with age. Sleep disorders are common among autistic people. The fact that I progressively lost the ability to sleep normally is one of the reasons I think that I was starting to lose the ability to mask prior to my cancer,…

  • The Self: A Vibratory Phenomenon

That which we call the self is not as solid as we’d like to believe. This article is about this thing we call “the self.” We tend to think about the self as this solid thing. I think this belief is mistaken. I don’t think I’m being original with this contention that it is a…

  • Five Years In Remission

I entered remission five years ago on February 11th 2021. It’s been a wild ride, to say the least. Ultimately, everybody’s journey through cancer is their own. If you’re a cancer survivor too, your journey is not my journey, and my journey is not your journey, no matter how similar they may be. Some people…

  • Taimi: An LGBTQ+ Dating and Chat App

Taimi became my go-to dating app, but it did not last. All dating apps suck. All of them. Without exception. So, yes, Taimi sucks too. However, they don’t all suck to the same extent, and thus Taimi, for a brief period of time, became my preferred dating app, dethroning Feeld. Alas, this was not to…

  • Why I Prefer Delta Chat To Signal

I find Delta Chat support for multiple profiles to be a killer feature. I have Delta Chat and Signal installed on my phone and my laptop. I’ve used both platforms to talk to various people. They both work fine. However, I do prefer Delta Chat because I do find it more flexible than Signal. I’m…

  • I Still Cannot Recommend Feeld

A red neon sign that says "Bite Me!" Bites appear to have been taken out of the B and the M.

Feeld used to be my go-to dating app, but no more. How the mighty have fallen! I let my subscription to Feeld lapse in mid-July. In the year prior, I spent about $270 on this app, in subscription fees and individual pings. However, they raised their prices at the end of Spring or the start…

  • Dating: The Attitude Problem

To find a lasting relationship, you have to accept those relationships that won’t last. I’m a strange creature. At 53, I have a fair amount of experience at living. However, when I joined the dating world just over three years ago, I had no experience to speak of regarding dating, and the minute experience I…

  • Yvonne Rorrer Declares Herself Ethically Non-Monogamous

    A portrait of Yvonne Rorrer.

Good for her, and for those of us who are also into ethical non-monogamy. I have never heard of Yvonne Rorrer until Stephen Colbert talked about her on The Late Show last night. I know she is a Democrat, but I don’t know more about her political positions. At any rate, it is a good…

  • Stimming Is Life 015

Yes music! In need to talk about the Route 66 song. Unfortunately, the electroswing mix that I picked does not exist on Spotify. I had to replace it with Nat King Cole’s version, which I love. This song is a good illustration of the fact that I think ads can be cute, even if I…

  • Stimming Is Life’s 80’s 001

I know I’ve had a few oldies in my playlists previously, but this is the first time I have an entire playlist of oldies. I asked YouTube for Lube, and then it figured that I just wanted to listen to oldies. I just rolled with it.
