Your Autistic Life: The Ruminations of an Autistic Enby

This is my blog. I masked my autism for the first 50 years of my life. I discovered in March 2023 that I am, in fact, autistic. Prior to this time, my life was mostly okay, but did not make much sense overall. Since my self-diagnosis, my life makes much more sense.

  • Flipboard: An Ableist Platform

I don’t recommend it for anyone, and especially not for people with mental health conditions. I don’t watch the news on the television anymore. Rather than do this, I used to use Google News. I did this for a long time. It was my main source of news. I tried using the fediverse for this,…

  • YouTube Channels Peddling Nonsense

I’ve noticed a few of those lately. I find this practice shameful. Do read the entire article. I swear it is all linked together. I’d say the second part is more important than the first, because I think more people have misconceptions about data deletion, but the first part provides some background. Titles Of Nobility…

  • Declaring One’s Autism Won’t Do Anything To Combat Police Ineptitude

I don’t think that declaring that one is autistic will change anything. I’ve seen lately a bunch of news articles talking about new rules whereby people who have behavioral disabilities, autism in particular, will be allowed to declare their disability so that the police can handle them properly. Before we go any further, let me…

Random Articles:

  • Sleep Disorders

I used to be able to sleep just fine, but I lost that ability with age. Sleep disorders are common among autistic people. The fact that I progressively lost the ability to sleep normally is one of the reasons I think that I was starting to lose the ability to mask prior to my cancer,…

  • When Your Sex Bites You In Your Autistic Ass

I’m a cis male, but my autistic traits correlate with those of cis female individuals. The study of autism is plagued with sexism, even to this day. There is definitely more awareness of the problem nowadays, but the prevalent view of how autism presents in people is largely based on antiquated stereotypes. If you are…

  • An Autistic Reading Of The Rifle’s Spiral

My take on a few lines of The Rifle’s Spiral by The Shins. This music video came into my orbit before I knew that I was autistic. However, there are a few lines in there that have always captured my imagination. I’ve had other neurodivergent people listen to this piece, and they also latched onto…

  • Dating Advice For Autistic People: Filling Out A Profile

For autistic folks, but I expect it would work for all neurodivergent folks. The first question you should ask yourself is whether you want to find someone to share your life with. Some of us really want this. However, some of us do not really want it. We’re doing it because someone else expects it…

  • How Are Autistic People Supposed To Make A Living?

I explain at least part of the “making a living” problem from the point of view of an autistic person. Tie your hat. This is a long post. Now, keep in mind the proverb: When you’ve met one autistic person, you’ve met one autistic person. I don’t claim here to talk for every single autistic…

  • If you don’t like it, you can just fork it, lulz!

It is not as simple as what those bozos hold. If only it were that simple. You don’t like a product, that product is FOSS, so you just fork it to make the modifications you want, and you’re a happy camper, right? RIGHT? This scenario is often a pipe dream, not always, mind you, but…

  • Alcohol Does Not Reveal Someone’s “Real” Personality

Contrary to what some people hold, I do not hold this to be true. I’m going to explain why. I’m a Zen Buddhist. As such, I don’t believe that there is any real self that can be uncovered. Everything we call a self is an ever-evolving set of causes and conditions. Forcibly, there cannot be…

  • National Days And Awareness Months Hurt My Mental Health

There’s a cost to your push for awareness, and it is my mental health. Let’s start with the messages about National Pizza Day or National Ice Cream Day. These are pure advertisement for special interests. They serve no other purpose than to place some class of product into the population’s mind. They have no other…

  • Kava: An Antianxiety Herb

I drink kava pretty much daily, because I like its effects. What is kava? It is a herb that grows naturally in the Pacific Islands. People there have been grinding its root for centuries to make drinks out of it. Eventually, it came to the West. No, I’m not going to give you the full…

  • Stimming Is Life 002

A playlist for those who like to stim to music. One thing I found that 120 beats per minute (BPM) may be close to my limit when I walk. I may have songs that go above this limit, but if they are too fast, then I just hand-dance and forget about walk-dancing. If you want…

  • Stimming Is Life 001

A playlist for those who like to stim to music. I’m a late-diagnosed autistic, and yes I did self-diagnose. For the longest time I was able to mask, but my cancer lessened my ability. Yet, if I look back at my life, I was stimming years before my cancer. One form of stimming for me…
